How to use the metronome
Drag the slider, type a number or use the − and + buttons to set the tempo from 30 to 300 BPM, then press Start. The first beat of each bar is accented with a higher click and the dots show where you are in the bar. Add eighth notes, triplets or sixteenths as quieter clicks to practise subdivisions. Changes apply instantly while it plays.
Tap tempo
Not sure of a song's tempo? Press Tap (or the T key) in time with the beat four or more times and the metronome sets the BPM to match. Pause for two seconds to start a fresh measurement.
Why the timing is accurate
Each click is scheduled ahead of time on the Web Audio clock instead of fired by an ordinary timer, so it stays steady even when your computer is busy or the tab is in the background. Compound meters such as 6/8, 9/8 and 12/8 get a lighter accent on every group of three, so you feel the pulse the way musicians count it.
