White noise generator

Tap a sound to turn it on, mix as many as you like, and set a sleep timer to fade out on its own.

How to use the noise generator

Tap any sound to switch it on, and use its slider to set how loud it is in the mix. You can layer several, for example brown noise with rain. The main button pauses or resumes everything, and the sleep timer fades the sound out slowly over the last minute so it never stops abruptly. Your mix is remembered on this device.

White, pink or brown noise?

White noise has equal energy at every frequency and sounds like a bright hiss, good for masking voices. Pink noise drops off toward the high end and sounds softer and more natural, like steady rain; many people find it best for sleep. Brown noise is deeper still, a low rumble like a waterfall or airplane cabin, popular for focus. Rain and ocean waves are built from shaped noise for a more natural feel.

Good to know

Every sound is generated live with Web Audio, so there is nothing to download and it plays without interruption for as long as you like. Keep the volume moderate, especially for babies: place the device away from the crib and well below conversation level. On iPhone, turn off silent mode if you hear nothing.
