How to use text to speech
Paste an article, an email or your own notes into the box and press Play. The text switches to reading view, where the current sentence is highlighted; tap any sentence to jump there. Press Pause to stop and pick up again from the same sentence. Speed runs from 0.5× to 2×, which is handy for proofreading slowly or skimming quickly.
Where do the voices come from?
The tool uses the speech engine built into your browser and operating system, so it works offline once the page is loaded and your text never leaves your device. Voices matching this page's language are listed first, and every other installed voice is listed below them. To get more voices, add a language pack in Windows, macOS, Android or iOS settings, or try Chrome or Edge, which include high-quality online voices.
Tips
Pick a voice that matches the language of your text for natural pronunciation. Line breaks and punctuation create pauses, so splitting long paragraphs helps. Your text, voice and speed are remembered on this device for next time.
