How is WPM calculated?
WPM (words per minute) counts every five correctly typed characters, including spaces, as one word. Raw WPM counts everything you typed, mistakes included, so the gap between the two shows how much speed you lose to errors. Accuracy is the share of characters you typed correctly.
What is a good typing speed?
The average adult types around 40 WPM. 60 WPM is comfortable for office work, 80 WPM and above is fast, and competitive typists pass 120 WPM. Accuracy matters more than raw speed: aim for 95% or better, then push the pace.
Tips to type faster
Keep your fingers on the home row (ASDF and JKL;), look at the screen instead of the keyboard, and practice in short daily sessions. A 60-second test is the most common benchmark; 15 seconds shows your burst speed and 120 seconds shows your stamina.
