How to play
Checkers is played on the dark squares of an 8 × 8 board. Each side starts with 12 pieces, and black moves first. A piece moves one square diagonally forward. When an enemy piece sits diagonally next to yours with an empty square behind it, you jump over it and capture it. After a jump you keep jumping as long as another capture is possible — that is a multi-jump. Captures are compulsory: when you can jump, you must, but you may choose which capture to make. Reach the far row and your piece is crowned a king, which moves and jumps diagonally both forwards and backwards. You win by capturing all of the computer’s pieces or leaving it with no legal move.
Controls
Tap a glowing piece, then tap a green dot to move. For a multi-jump, tap each landing square in turn. When a capture is available, only the pieces that can capture light up. Undo takes back your last move together with the computer’s reply, and 40 moves each without a capture or a plain piece moving ends the game as a draw.
Computer levels and tips
Easy often plays at random, Normal reads four moves ahead, and Hard searches as deep as it can in about a second, in the background so the page stays smooth. Keep your back row in place for as long as you can to stop the computer from crowning kings, hold the centre, and look for moves that force the computer into a jump that sets up a bigger multi-jump for you. Wins are counted for each level in this browser.
